PromptX is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. You are free to:

Desktop Application Terms

Use of the Application

PromptX desktop application:

  • Requires your own Claude API credentials to function
  • Runs locally on your device
  • May access local files and system resources as configured by you

You are responsible for:

  • Your API usage and associated costs with Anthropic
  • Content generated through the application
  • Compliance with Anthropic’s terms of service
  • Proper handling of any sensitive data you process

Third-Party Services

When using PromptX with third-party services:

  • You must comply with their respective terms of service
  • Costs and rate limits are determined by those services
  • Anthropic Claude API: Terms of Service
  • MCP Servers: Refer to individual server terms

Disclaimer of Warranties

PromptX is provided “as is” without any warranties:

  • No guarantee of uptime, functionality, or fitness for purpose
  • No liability for data loss, damages, or service interruptions
  • Use at your own risk

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Deepractice is not liable for any direct, indirect, or consequential damages
  • Total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the software (which is zero for open-source distribution)

User-Generated Content

When using AI features:

  • You retain rights to your prompts and generated content
  • You are responsible for the legality and appropriateness of your use
  • Anthropic’s terms apply to content processed through Claude API

Software vs. Research Content

⚠️ Important Distinction:

The PromptX software remains fully MIT-licensed. You can use, modify, sell, and distribute it freely.

Only the academic research paper (published text) has ACM copyright restrictions. This does NOT affect your rights to use the software.

License Breakdown:

  • ✅ PromptX Software (GitHub repo): MIT License - Use anywhere, anytime, for any purpose
  • 📄 Research Paper (WWW ‘26 publication): ACM Copyright - Read and cite, but cannot redistribute commercially

The software license has not changed and will not change. It is and will remain MIT-licensed open source.

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms. Changes will be:

  • Announced via GitHub repository updates
  • Documented in release notes
  • Effective immediately upon posting

Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of new terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by applicable open-source software principles and international copyright law.
